Champix: a clinically proven quit smoking treatment
Stubbing out your last cigarette for good is easier said than done. If you’ve tried giving up smoking with gum, patches or counselling only to fall into a relapse several weeks down the line, its time for a change of tactics. Champix is a 12 week oral medication that is proven to be more effective in helping you reach your goal than all other forms of quit smoking treatment, including its closest competitor in the market, Zyban.
Here’s how it works…
Champix works in a unique manner, because unlike other treatments, it does not contain nicotine. It works by stimulating the nicotinic receptors in the brain to help smokers quit in two different ways; firstly, by binding to the nicotine receptors in the brain it prevents users experiencing pleasure when inhaling cigarette smoke; and secondly, it decreases the craving and withdrawal symptoms you experience when you stop smoking.
Clinical studies were performed to evaluate whether Champix and Zyban users were still smoking during weeks 9 through 12 of treatment. At the end of one particular study over 40% of people taking Champix did not smoke during this period, compared to just 30% of Zyban users.
How to get hold of Champix
Champix, which is also sold under the trade name Chantix, contains the active ingredient varenicline and is available on prescription only.
